Viña de los Nogales can be found in the warm & central part of Chile, with just an hour drive from the capital city (Santiago). The vineyards were planted in 1999 & can be found on a very unique location; where the Andes Mountains are joining the coastal mountains. The space between those mountains used to be a lagoon. Throughout the years, the lagoon disappeared & the space transformed into an excellent place for viniculture. Now, the 173 hectares of vines from Viña de Los Nogales are flaunting & giving this sandy and stoney area some character, just a few metres from the San Francesco river. Due to the hot summers, the grapes have a long ripening season, which allows the grapes to retain a good acid level for the fruit freshness of the wines.
The Merlot grapes are coming from the 'San Jorge' block, situated in the Cachapoal Valley.

Vinification & Maturing of the Wine | Despite the delayed harvest of 10 days in April 2018, the quality of the wine remains high. After the grapes were harvested by hand & mechanically, they were placed in stainless steel tanks. A short 2-day pre-fermentative maceration took place in the tanks (yeast has been added during that time in order to start the alcoholic fermentation process of 8 days, between 22 & 25 degrees). Once the sugars were used, the wine was decanted & kept in contact with barrels made of French & American oak (8 months). 70% of the barrels are used before. |
Tasting Notes | This wine is a ruby-red wine, with deep purplish hues. The aromas typical of the variety are present in the form of red fruit, such as raspberries and cherries, as also black fruits such blackberries and black plums, with notes of vanilla and toasted oak. In the mouth it is smooth, with an enveloping texture, and the finish is long and elegant. |
Recommendations | We recommend to serve this Merlot at a temperature between 16 & 18 degrees Celsius. |
