Chateau Argadens Vintage - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc 2020
Chateau Argadens Vintage - Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc 2020 [Bordeaux AOC, France].
In 1883, Maison Sichel was set up as a buying office for the UK in the Bordeaux. Since that time, seven generations of the Sichel family have brought this family business to a great success. They use a combination of tradition & innovation in order to create the best quality of wines possible. The family Sichel took this estate over in 2002. Chateau Argadens is located in Saint-André-du-Bois, 60 kilometres south of Bordeaux. The family renamed the estate to Argadens in reference to the true founders of this estate in the 13th century. However, it was a major investment project. They restructured the vineyards, increased the plant density, modernise the winery & build an ageing cellar for their wines. The investments gave them the advantage to fully express the terroir in their wine making process.
The estate won several medals & is a valuable part of the Sichel family (e.g.Oscar des Bordeaux de l'été 2019).
Information:
Variety | Merlot (63%), Cabernet Sauvignon (31%) & Cabernet Franc (5%). |
Area | Bordeaux AOC, France. |
Nature of Soil | Mainly clay-limestone. The vineyards are situated on the highest hills of the Entre-Deux-Mers wine region (one of the five highest points, in fact, of the Gironde). The vineyard is thus extremely well drained and extremely well exposed to the sun and the air. |
Average Age of the Vines | Approximately 30 years. |
Alcohol Percentage | 13.5% Vol. |
Vinification & Maturing of the Wine | The manual harvest is determined by plot & according to the taste of the grapes. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats (temperature controlled). The post fermentation, maceration & malolactic fermentation are also done in vat. Once the wines have been pressed (pneumatic press), they are put for about 14 months on French & American oaked barrique & racked frequently. Before the bottling, the wine is lightly filtered. |
Tasting Notes | The wine has a nice dark red colour with lights (showing the richness of the vintage). In the nose, an expressive bouquet of dark fruits & very elegant oaky notes. In the mouth, a crisp & sappy wine offering sweetness & richness on the palate. The Cabernet adds the necessary freshness to enhance the pleasant tannins of the Merlot. A wine with a very good balance offering a lot of pleasure after several years in the cellars of Chateau Argadens. |
Recommendations | We recommend to serve this wine at a temperature between 16 & 18 degrees. |
