Lace 'By Almenkerk' - Vineyard Selection - 2020 (South-Africa, Elgin Valley).
Please Stop
looking for another wine estate in South-Africa. We just found the perfect match for you!
This young wine estate, located in the Elgin Valley, produces beautiful wines. The owners like to think that their wines reflect the passion & fun they had while making them. The remarkable thing is that the owners, Joris & Natalie, are originally coming from Belgium (our neighbours?!). In 2002, they signed the papers for this apple-farm, which has the perfect soil (terroir) & climate for viniculture.
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes grow on the so called 'sunlight block'. This part of the estate is located at 300 metres above sea-level, with a beautiful view over the area. The sea breeze & sunlight, stresses the vines to produce ripe, concentrate flavours into their grapes. The vines are not irrigated throughout the ripening season, forcing them to work hard in order to find water. This has a positive influence on the quality of this amazing Sauvignon Blanc.
Information:
Variety | Merlot (69%) & Syrah (15%) and smaller components of Cabernet Sauvignon (9%), Cabernet Franc (6%) and a small bit of Petit Verdot (1%). |
Alcohol Percentage
|
13.5% Vol. |
Vinification & Maturing of the Wine | The grapes are allowed to soak (Cold Maceration) for four days until the cooling is turned off and natural fermentation starts. Only the specific components are inoculated to enhance the fruit expression over complexity. Fermentation typically takes between seven till ten days at temperatures of 25 till 28 degrees. |
Tasting Notes | It is a medium-bodied, fruit-driven wine that is supported by pleasant tannins. In the nose, some dark cherries & black fruit typify the two main grape cultivars (Merlot & Syrah) in this wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon imparts some bigger tannins that form the backbone of the wine. The Cabernet Franc gives it the cool climate touch. In the mouth, the wine is fruity and full bodied. |
Recommendations | Drinking young now but will age beautifully over the next three till five years. We recommend to serve this wine at a temperature between 16 & 18 degrees Celsius. |
